Dear Families,
Can you believe that it is already December?! We have been continuing to work hard in kindergarten!
ELA
This week we were introduced to the sounds of /w/ /j/ /y/ and /w/. We listened for these sounds in words, we blended these sounds to make new words and we segmented words that contained these sounds. We also learned the correct way to draw a picture of these sounds. Be sure to ask your child to blend and read some words like mix, wet, jet, and yap. We also practiced reading phrases and illustrating them, too. We introduced to a new tricky word - yellow.
Our poem this week is Winter's Here. It is such a good one that helps us know about the animals that hibernate during wintertime. Ask your kindergartner to sing it to you!
This week in Knowledge, we continued our learning about the farm. We listened to the story about The Little Red Hen. We were able to sequence the main events of the story. Ask your kindergartner all about it! This week, we also learned how our farm food gets to the grocery store. We talked about all the different jobs that were needed to get our food. Many of us wanted to be the truck driver that brings the food to the grocery store because it would be fun to drive!
Math
We played a fun game in math this week. It is called Fives Up! Number cards and ten frame cards are placed in a pile. Students take turns turning the cards over. Once two cards that add up to five are turned over, that person can take them! It is a lot of fun! It is also a fun way to practice knowing all our combinations to make five.
We continue to learn about our school and community. We started to look at maps and being able to find things on maps!
* Tomorrow is an early release day! Please be sure to contact your child's teacher if there is a change in going home plans.
* Tomorrow is Festive Friday! Your child can wear their favorite flannel shirt!
* ALL students go outside for winter recess- please ensure your child has proper snow attire.
*Extra mittens and socks are always a good idea on those wet, snowy days!
*Thank you for ALL of the Gingerbread House supplies - we are looking forward to our decorating day on Friday, December 15th at 2:50. If you will be coming in to help, please remember to check in at the office - you will need to have your driver's license and go through the Raptor screening.
*Our last day of school before Winter Break is Friday, Dec. 22nd. We will be celebrating with our GRINCH Day! Be sure to sign the permission slip!
Have a wonderful weekend!
💚💛 Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
