A Note from the Principal Dear Thorson Families, On Monday, April 22, we will be having our Thorson Earth Day Clean Up. We invite students and staff to wear green clothing to school on Monday. Grade levels will be headed outside to clean up our school grounds. Please be sure to send your child to school dressed appropriately for the weather. Students should have boots or closed toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeve shirts. We are excited to participate in this school wide clean up! This week we will be celebrating some special people who are important to our school. Tuesday is National School Bus Driver day, when we honor our bus drivers who ensure our students get to and from school safely each day. Also, Wednesday, April 24 is Administrative Professionals Day. We celebrate our office staff for all of their hard work and thank them for all that they do. Our Stuff the Bus Food Drive was a HUGE success. Across the elementary schools, we collected a total of 4,668 pounds of food, which is almost 100 pounds more than last year. The school level results were as follows: Thorson Elementary -2,328.61 total pounds (4.41 pounds per student) Westlawn Elementary -1,149.37 total pounds (3.909 pounds per student) Parkview Elementary -1,1940.40 total pounds (2.391 pounds per student) Every school did an amazing job collecting food to benefit those in need. Thank you to all for your support of this great service learning project. Parkview Principal Brittany Kleeba and Westlawn Principal Katie Ramos will be joining us at our next Jaguar Jumpstart on Friday, May 3 to present the Stuff the Bus trophies to members of the Thorson Student Council. Way to go, everyone! There is no school tomorrow, Friday, April 19, as this is a professional development day for teachers. Enjoy the long weekend! Sincerely, Angela Little, Principal Scott May, Assistant Principal New and ExcitingThorson Green Team Did you know that your gently worn sneakers could help the Thorson Green Team? Well, they can and here’s how… Starting April 8, our team is participating in a fundraiser where there is nothing to buy or sell; All we need is your support and your gently worn, used, or new sneakers! Start in closets and gather as many pairs of sneakers that you no longer want; maybe you’ve out-grown them, they’re out of style, or out of season. We can only accept athletic shoes. No other shoes please. You can ask your neighbors and friends to help out. Every pair counts! Please bring the sneakers to school and place them in the collection container inside the front doors. The sneakers that we all collect will help raise money to support our program AND will help our environment by keeping sneakers out of landfills. CCSF Color Rush(free t-shirt if you register by May 8th) Kicking off the summer while honoring the hard work of local students and teachers, the Color Rush created by Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund brings families together to enjoy the outdoors every May. Last year, over 300 participants enjoyed the one-mile fun run around Centennial Park! New this year, the CCSF will give back to our PTO a $1 for every registered runner that selects Thorson as their school. The second annual Color Rush is on May 30 at 5:30 p.m. and includes "blasts" of non-toxic color powder that add some good clean fun to a run that the entire family can complete. Food vendors, swag bags, raffles and other colorful activities make it a full event. The entry fee for the event is just $15 per person and includes a T-shirt for registration by May 8th.
