Dear Families,

HOW can tomorrow be DECEMBER 1st?! Our fingers are all crossed that we get a visit from a little ELF!!

ELA Skills
This week we were introduced to the sounds of /b/ /l/ /r/ and /u/.  We listened for these sounds in words, we blended these sounds to make new words and we segmented words that contained these sounds.  We also learned the correct way to draw a picture of these sounds. Be sure to ask your child to blend and read some words like rugbuglet or rub We also practiced reading phrases and illustrating them, too.  On Friday, we will be introduced to a new tricky word - blue. We know the sounds of b and l - so only the vowel team /ue/ is underlined in this tricky word!

This week we practiced blending CVC words and reading our Tricky Words with this fun smartboard game.  Be sure to ask your child to read the words and to tell you where those silly farm animals were hiding!

ELA Knowledge
We started a new knowledge unit about the farm!! As you can see in the pictures below, our room is starting to look like a farm, too!
So far, we have learned all about cows, chickens, pigs and what it's like to live on a  farm!  We have been introduced to many new vocabulary words, like pastures, shelter, harvest, tools, herd, grazing, peck, collects, hatch, litter, raise, valuable and wallow - WOW!!! We are even writing a book to keep track of all of the interesting facts we are learning about the farm! We know you will love all of our adorable farm artwork, too!

Math
This week in math we worked on writing equations for story problems.  This was HARD WORK!  First, we had to listen to the story problem and determine if we were adding to...or taking away.  Then, we used cubes and our 10 frames to build the  equation.  Last, we wrote the equations on our dry erase boards.  We could practice this at home, too.  Give us 10 counters, a dry erase board or paper and pencil - and make up some story problems for us to solve. We LOVE math!!

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we are continuing to learn about being a good citizen.  We talked about rules and laws and why it is important to follow them. Be sure to ask your child what it means to be a good citizen.

*Any Ritz or Graham cracker donations are greatly appreciated - our supply is running low - and we do not want HANGRY kindergartners!!

*Please send your child's LABELED snow clothes in a separate sturdy bag. We do not want to put wet snow pants/mittens in their backpacks.

* ALL students go outside for recess in the winter - please make sure your child has proper snow attire.

*Extra mittens and socks are always a good idea on those wet, snowy days!

*Thank you for ALL of the Gingerbread House supplies - we are looking forward to our decorating day on Friday, December 15th at 2:50.  If you will be coming in to help, please remember to check in at the office first. You must have a completed background check by tomorrow, 12/1.

*Our last day of school before Winter Break is Friday, Dec. 22nd. We will be celebrating with our GRINCH Day!

Have a wonderful weekend!
💚 Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
