Weekly Newsletter- May 15-19th

Dear Parents,

This week we reviewed the silent e-spelling pattern.   This spelling pattern includes words like make, tube, home, and time. All of our star words have been introduced!  Hooray!   We reviewed these words in this week's stories, poems, and writing.  We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child.

This week's stories were Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog.  While reading these stories, the students worked on summarizing using the format of "Somebody, wanted, but, so/then" as a guide.  Students also worked on identifying the problem and solution and comparing the two stories.  We love Mo Willem's and his stories of the Pigeon.  Ask your kindergartner what they liked best about the two stories.  Here are links to the stories for you to enjoy.

The poem this week was Picnic Guests.  Students learned the words and the motions at the start of the week and practiced all week.  Be sure to check the students out on Seesaw on Friday.

We finished up our opinion writing unit on Wednesday.  Students shared their stories with friends.  At the end of sharing our stories, we had a little celebration.  Each student got to have some popcorn for a job well done!  All of your child's opinion writing books came home.  Be sure to look at them and compliment your child on all his/her hard work.

Reminders:
We will be visiting Riveredge on Thursday, May 25th
