Thorson Thursday Folder
May 25, 2023
No School on Monday, May 29!
A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Families,
As we enter the final two weeks of the school year, we will again be doing a fun Thorson Countdown to send us off to summer. Starting Thursday, June 1, we will have fun “theme” days that each start with one of the letters in the word “Thorson”. Here is the Thorson Countdown plan. Please note the dress up or fun activities that we have planned for each of those final days.
We are excited to announce that our school has again met their goal of filling the Jaguar Pride Ticket bucket. Hooray! We will be going on a field trip for our last PBIS all-school celebration. The field trip will be on Thursday, June 8. Students in grades K-3 will be going to the Rivoli to see “The Lego Movie”. Please note that this movie is rated PG. If you would prefer that your child not see this movie, please let your child’s teacher know right away so that we can make alternate plans for your child. Students in grade 4-5 will be going to Skateland. We are proud of our students’ hard work this year and are excited to celebrate them with this all-school reward. This trip will be fully funded by our school’s PBIS funds and a generous donation from the Thorson PTO. We thank the PTO for their support of this special trip, making this activity no cost for our families!
On the last day of school, Friday, June 9, we will be having our annual Field Day. We are planning for a fun day of mostly outdoor activities for all students in K-5th grade. In order to make this day successful, we need your help! We are looking for parent volunteers to help set up, run various stations, and clean up at the conclusion of the event. Please sign up here if you are able to help!
The Cedarburg School District and Go Riteway Transportation Group are happy to announce the installation of GPS technology and cameras on all buses within the District on May 1, 2023. GPS technology, and the corresponding mobile app, will allow families to track the location of their child’s school bus. To sign up for the free app, complete the instructions on this informational document. All questions related to the app should be directed to Riteway via email at cedarburg@goriteway.com or by phone at 262-375-3102. Additionally, the recently installed cameras will allow administrators to follow up on incidents that may occur on the bus throughout the year. These cameras will record video and audio footage and will be stored for at least 30 days after recording. Applicable School Board policies will determine access and management of the video and audio recordings from cameras.
Finally, Thorson’s 5th grade Girl Scout Troop 8138 is leading a donation drive for the Wisconsin Humane Society. They are collecting items from the humane society’s wish list and all items donated will be taken to the Ozaukee Campus. Donation bins will be placed in the front entryway of school during the week of May 30th - June 2nd. The humane society is a non-profit organization that relies on community support and they are tremendously grateful for all donations! Click here to see the wish list. Thank you for your help!
There is no school on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. Our deepest gratitude goes to all American families who have lost ancestors and family members for our freedoms. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Angela Little, Principal
Scott May, Assistant Principal

Get your school supplies now for next year!
The PTO has organized a school supplies kit service for the next school year again for anyone who is interested! The Write Stuff is a woman-owned company located not too far away in Elburn, IL They provided great service for us the past 3 years!
This service offers you the opportunity to purchase a kit that includes all the items on your child's school supplies list for 2023-24. It is completely optional! The benefit is that it helps you avoid the rush in August trying to find that [insert specific color] notebook or other item that you wouldn't expect to be hard to find (spoken from experience). The bonus is that you are able to edit your kit to remove anything you already have (eg, markers or pencils leftover from this year or headphones that you don't need more of). This service does not benefit the PTO in any way (e.g., it is not a fundraiser).
The Thorson Elementary School The Write Stuff store is now open at www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/thorson. There is free delivery to the school (in August) if you order by June 15th. The store will remain open until July 15th (standard delivery fees apply after 6/15). Instructions are included in the attached flyer. The 2023-24 school supplies lists can be found here. There are a couple of things that are on the list that The Write Stuff doesn't carry (eg, art smocks, backpacks.)
Please contact Kassy Bartelme at 651-894-2224 or kmbartelme@gmail.com with any questions!
Thorson Green Squad
Garden Boxes Sign up Link
The Thorson PTO graciously granted each grade level a planter box! We are looking for volunteers to each take a week and help tend to our boxes throughout summer. We have 7 total planter boxes so feel free to bring a friend or two! We would like each volunteer to take a week where they come to pull weeds, water plants (watering can and water provided), and harvest any crops. You are welcome to keep what you pick, give it away, or donate it. If you run any clubs and would like to bring them on your sign up date that would also be great, feel free to share your week with others! Mrs. Papke can also sign papers for any service hours if you volunteer. This is a great learning opportunity for our students, but it cannot be successful without your help! We truly appreciate it! Depending on what each class plants, you may not have much to do on your week or quite a bit of work, so thanks for being flexible! In the past volunteers have come every other day to check on the plants. I have the sign up going all the way until August, but you may come and see that things have died and just need to be pulled, that would also be appreciated. There is a gray box with the hose faucet key ( it is gray and says custodial on it, just put it in and turn left) and watering cans! Thanks again!
5th Grade Farewell Picnic
Inviting all 5th grade parents, families, and any staff who would like to help celebrate Thorson's Class of 2023! The PTO is hosting a 5th grade Farewell picnic at Cedar Pointe Park on June 7 from 5 - 7:30 pm in celebration of this milestone! There will be food, photos, games, cake, and fun! We will also hand out the 5th-grade t-shirts that the students wear on their last day at Thorson (if you cannot attend the picnic, we will hand out t-shirts at school on Thursday June 8). Please click the link below for the Evite for more information and please be sure to RSVP by May 26, 2023.
