Weekly Newsletter- January 17-19

 Dear Families,

This week flew by!  We had a busy short work!  We learned about the -ig and -in word families.  You may have noticed this with our Seesaw work.  We worked on the star words "him" and "his"  Be sure to practice these words with your kindergartner.

This week in reading, we learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  We read stories and watched a Brain Pop Jr. about his life.  You can visit Brain Pop Jr. and watch it!  The students worked together to fill out a sheet about what we had learned.  Ask your kindergartner all about his life.

We also learned a lot about Arctic Animals. Have you had a chance to watch our poem Arctic Animals on Seesaw? One of the animals we focused on was the polar bear.  As a class, we labeled a polar bear and worked on a polar bear project.

In writing, we are continuing to work on our How-To writing.  We learned how we start each step with first, next, then, and last.  We also learned that it is important to talk directly to the reader when we write.  We can do this by using the word "you."

In math we started looking at shapes and how they are made up.  We looked at a variety of pattern blocks.  We also started to graph our shapes to be able to compare and use our vocabulary words of greater than and less than.

We had a fantastic time with our buddies for the PBIS celebration on Thursday.  It was so fun to go outside and search for the clues.  The hot chocolate and movie was a special treat!  Way to go Jaguars!

Thank you so much!
