Dear Parents,
This week we reviewed the silent e-spelling pattern. Words like make, tube, home, and time are part of this spelling pattern. All of our star words have been introduced! Hooray! We reviewed these words in the stories, poems, and writing we did this week. We continue to review all words and assess through the year! Please continue to work on these words with your child. This week's stories were Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog. While reading these stories, the students worked on the skill of summarizing using the format of "Somebody, wanted, but, so/then" as a guide. Students also worked on the skill of identifying the problem and solution and comparing the two stories. We love Mo Willem's and his stories of the Pigeon. Ask your kindergartner what they liked best about the two stories. Here are links to the stories for you to enjoy.
The poem this week was Picnic Guests. Students learned the words and the motions at the start of the week and practiced all week long. Be sure to check the students out on Seesaw on Friday.
We finished up our opinion writing unit on Wednesday. Students shared their stories with friends. At the end of sharing our stories, we had a little celebration. Each student got to have a donut for a job well done! All of your child's opinion writing books came home. Be sure to take a look at them and compliment your child on all his/her hard work.
Reminders:
Tomorrow is Neon Day at Thorson! Wear your brightest outfit!
We will be visiting Riveredge on Thursday, May 26th
