Weekly Newsletter September 25-29

Dear Families,
Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed! We had so much fun celebrating on Tuesday!  Thank you to ALL of the families that sent in supplies to make our day extra special!

Our poem this week goes right along with our apple celebration! Be sure to look for our Seesaw video on Friday! We 💚 apples!

ELA Skills
We have been very busy working on blending 3 sounds to make a word - and listening for beginning sounds, too!  This week we played a game...there were 6 picture cards in the middle of our circle.  We had to find the picture that began with the /m/ sound or the /n/ sound...and even the /sh/ sound! We did a great job with this! You could play the beginning sound game with us at home, too!  Place 3 items in front of your child.  Give them the beginning sound of one of them - and see if they can hand you the correct item!! Extra practice at home is always encouraged!!

We continued practicing our tripod grip and making different types of lines.  We worked on crosses, x's, loops and canes! We could practice making these lines at home too! We also worked on writing our names the kindergarten way - starting with a capital letter and using lowercase letters for the remainder of the letters.  This is hard for many of us - but we will keep practicing!

ELA Knowledge
We started a new unit this week - Our 5 Senses!  We are loving learning about our senses with Mr. Potato Head! We also enjoyed participating in the 5 Senses field trip at Riveredge!! Be sure to look for our special post (coming soon) highlighting our fieldtrip!

Math
This week in math we learned and practiced some new Math Workplace games. These games reinforce our work on decomposing numbers to 5.  We can tell you that decomposing numbers is taking a whole number and breaking it down into two smaller parts.  To decompose 5, you can break it into 4 and 1, or 3 and 2, or 5 and 0.   Be sure to ask us what decomposing means!

*With colder mornings- please label all jackets, sweatshirts, etc

Have a great weekend!
💕Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
