Weekly Newsletter April 2-5th

Families,

Welcome back from Spring Break!  We all hope you had the BEST time.  We are so happy that all of our friends are back.

In Skills this week, we have been busy showing all that we know.  We were tested on our lowercase letter identification and our tricky words.  We did a GREAT job!  We started reading a new story called "Sam and the Duck." In this story, we notice that there are quotation marks to show that someone is talking.  Also, we noticed that there were exclamation points.  When we see these exclamation points, we have to read with excitement!  Remember to look inside your child's book bag for more information and ways to help your kindergartner become amazing readers.

In ELA this week, we read the story The Easter Bunny's Assistant.  While listening to the story, we worked on the strategies of predicting, retelling, cause and effect, and making connections.  We all thought this was a super silly story! Be sure to ask us our favorite part!

Our vocabulary words this week were assistant and pleasant.  Ask us what these 2 words mean!

We also read a nonfiction story about skunks and learned so many amazing skunk facts! Did you know a baby skunk is called a kit? Or that skunks can spray up to 10 feet? Be sure to ask us what skunks like to eat!

In math, we are working on the concept that a teen number is 10 and some more.  We have used double ten frames to explore and work on this idea.  The students would also look at two double tens frame cards and determine which card is more and which is less.

Tomorrow is Jaguar Jumpstart!  We will be meeting in the gym.  Be sure to be at school on time. Wear your Thorson Jaguar gear or the color blue!

Please consider bringing in a box of Graham crackers or Ritz crackers to restock our snack supply.

Thanks so much!

Love,
Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
