Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing break! We are back in the groove and working hard in kindergarten!
I-Ready Testing:This week, your children participated in the I-Ready Reading test. They did a great job listening and following directions! We will continue the Math portion of the I-Ready test next week and your child's results will be shared with you.
Skills
This week in Skills, we were introduced to a new tricky word - I. It is underlined and tricky - because we have not learned the long vowel sounds, yet. We also introduced the lowercase letter names! Up until this point, we have only been using the letter sounds! We were also introduced to consonant clusters this week!! Please help us at home by giving us words to blend like plug, slim, fast, tent and snug - we can do it!! Here is an example of the game we played to practice blending and reading words with consonant clusters in them.
Knowledge
This week we continued our Native American Unit in Knowledge! We learned all about the Lenape tribe! Be sure to ask your child where the Lenape tribe lived, what their clothing looked like, what they ate and what type of shelter they built! We also learned about Native Americans today. We talked about how they live in homes like we do, how they shop in the grocery stores like we do and how they wear the same clothing we do, too! We are so excited to find out what we will be doing next week to celebrate all that we have learned about Native Americans!
Look at our cool Native American Chart we made!
We have been learning MANY new vocabulary words!
Math
In math, we have been focusing on measuring with nonstandard units. We are able able to compare the lengths of two objects. We have also learned that we need to be precise in our measurements. We don't want to have any gaps in our measuring! Students are also learning to use the math symbols for greater than or less < and >.
*No school 1/15 and 1/19
*If your child is planning on sending in valentines - we have 39 students (we are getting a new friend in February :) Please have your child sign his/her name on their Valentines - but do not address them to each student.
Have a great weekend!
💕Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
