Dear Families,
Our first quarter of Kindergarten is in the books! Wow - time flies!! We are looking forward to meeting with you about your child's progress on the 16th and 20th!
ELA Skills
This week we were introduced to the sounds of /p/ and /e/. We listened for these sounds at the beginning and ending of words, we blended these sounds to make new words and we segmented words that contained these sounds. We also learned the correct way to draw a picture of these sounds. Be sure to ask your child to blend and read some words like pet, vet, hen or pen. We also practiced reading 2 and 3 word phrases. We learned that we put spaces between words in a phrase. Ask us to read phrases like mom and dad, mad men, or cat did sit.
This week we practiced blending CVC words and reading our Tricky Words with this fun smartboard game. Be sure to ask your child to read the words and to tell you where the scarecrows were hiding in our game!
ELA Knowledge
We continued learning about plants this week. We were introduced to the vocabulary words: honey, nectar, pollen, pollenation, petals, core, produce, scrumptious, eventually, hero and orchards. The kids loved learning about Polly the pollinator! They even got a chance to "pollinate" their own flowers with their very own honey bee pointer! We also learned all about Johnny Appleseed. Be sure to ask your child why Johnny Appleseed was important.
This week our poem was I'm a Little Scarecrow. We know you will enjoy watching our class perform it on Seesaw tomorrow!
Math
In math, we have been working on counting by 2's. This can sometimes be a tricky concept to understand. Please practice counting by 2's with your kindergartner. We also really love the counting by 2's song!
*Tuesday is our 50's Day celebration! Your child is welcome to come dressed like the 50's. Thank you to all of the families that donated supplies to make our day so special!
*With winter weather approaching - please remember to label your child's winter gear!
Have a fabulous weekend!
💕Mrs. Neuville & Mrs. Rocky
