Happy November!
We are sure busy here in kindergarten! Can you believe that it is already the end of the first quarter!
ELA Skills
This week worked with the sounds of /f/ /v/ and /z/. We listened for these sounds at the beginning and ending of words, we blended these sounds to make new words and we segmented words that contained these sounds. We also learned the correct way to draw a picture of this sound. We are doing our best to stay correctly on the lines. Be sure to ask your child to blend and read some words like oz, fit, or van. REMEMBER to read over the letters sent home about ELA Skills. If you are practicing at home, your child will be a reading rockstar!
This week we started our new unit all about plants. Students learned all about the difference bewteen living and nonliving things. Students learned that plants need water, food, light, and air to survive. We also learned all about the parts of the plant and the plant life cycle.

We made an acorn project to celebrate seeds! Did you know that it takes 50 years for an oak tree to mature and make more acorns? WOW!
Of course, we had to make a squirrel too. Squirrels are important because they will often bury acorns, forget about them, and new oak trees will grow!
Math
This week we worked on creating big shapes from little shapes. To do this, we made a large quilt. We took a lot of little squares to make a BIG square. When we put all of our quilt pieces together, we made a large rectangle. As a class, we also looked for different patterns in our quilt. Many students were able to recognize that it is an AB pattern. Be sure to check it out when you all come for conferences!
As ALWAYS, WE APPRECIATE ALL of your help from home!
*With colder weather HERE please remember to label ALL outdoor gear. It will also be helpful for you to practice getting winter gear on with your child. The order in kindergarten is snow pants, boots, coat, ZIP!, hat, mittens/gloves. It is also helpful if your child has a sturdy bag to put all their winter gear in.
* All homework sent home is OPTIONAL. It does not need to be returned. However, we do recommend that children practice reading their CVC words.
**Get out your poodle skirts and bobby socks!!! We will be celebrating 50 days in school on Tuesday, November 14th - more info will be coming!
Love,
💜Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
