Weekly Newsletter- May 31-June 3

Dear Families,

Can you believe it is June?!?  We're in the final countdown!  One more week of kindergarten left!  Even though there is just a little bit of time, we have been busy!

This week we celebrated all of our summer birthdays by creating a birthday book, wearing a crown, and singing our favorite birthday song.  Have the most wonderful birthdays this summer friends!

We reviewed our sight words by playing "Where is Your Teacher Hiding?"  Students had to read sight words and pull down a word.  Their goal was to find Mrs. Neuville, Mrs. Rocky, and Mrs. Klebba before all the words were read.  The students did a fantastic job at being able to read the words.  Continue to practice these words over the summer to keep your child's skills strong.

In reading, we have been taking the time to read some Kevin Henkes stories.  We already read two of his stories at the start of the year, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and Chrysanthemum.  This week, we read Julius Baby of the World and Lilly's Big Day.  Both of these books included the character Lilly from Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse.  The students loved seeing her again in these other stories.  Here are video links to enjoy the story at home!

In writing, we worked on creating posters for the high school graduates who will be visiting our school on Friday.  We are so excited to celebrate the big kids on their next adventure!

We also created posters for a special assembly for our 5th graders who will be headed off to middle school.  We are proud of all of them and wish them all the best of luck at Webster!

During writing, we also visited one of our favorite websites, Pebble Go.  We learned all about great white sharks and wrote two facts about them.  We practiced including capital letters, spaces, and punctuation in our writing.  We are getting ready to go to first grade!  We then did a directed drawing on great white sharks to go along with our writing.

Great white sharks eat dolphins.  Great white sharks have babies and are called pups.

During math class, we have been learning about money.  We have discussed the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.  We have learned about who is on the head's side and what is on the tail's side.  We have learned how much each coin is worth and how to count the coins.  We love hearing money songs to help us with identification.  Please enjoy this money video at home!

Tomorrow as a part of our Thorson count down to summer, it is eating lunch outdoors!  It is preferred that your child BRINGS their lunch from home.

Thank you all so much for your support!

Take care,
Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
