We started out our week with a SPRING celebration! We had spring centers, we planted seeds in the kindergarten flower box and we even had a spring-time snack! Here are a few pics of our morning fun!
At this center, we had to be sight word detectives! We had to crack the code to figure out the sight word! Can you figure out our secret code??
One of the centers we visited was a short vowel sort. We had to place each picture under the correct short vowel butterfly.
Our favorite center was the SPRING creation station!
Going outside and planting in the kindergarten garden bed was also high on our FAVORITE list! Be sure to drive by the school this summer and look for our class Zinnias!! We can't wait to see them sprout!
What a great day!
This week our read aloud was Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs: As Retold by Mo Willems. We all loved how Mo Willems twists the traditional fairy tale in a very silly way! While listening to the story, we worked on the strategies of predicting, retelling, making connections, inferring, and stating our opinions. Be sure to ask your child to tell you about his/her favorite part!

Be sure to ask your child about our 2 story vocabulary words - succulent and unsuspecting!
We are all getting excited for SUMMER VACATION! This was our final poem for the year!! We are bringing our red poetry notebook home to share with you. It will be soo fun to go back and look through all of the fun poems we did throughout the year!
In phonics, we learned about Tricky y the Robber Guy - he steals the sounds of /e/ and /i/! This week our words all focused on /y/ making the long i sound - like in the words cry, my, by and fly. Be sure to ask us to write a few of these words at home for you!
We practiced our sight words by searching for the three hidden dinosaurs! Our kids are experts at reading and spelling these words!! Be sure to ask him/her where the dinos were hiding!
In writer's workshop, we learned all five parts of a friendly letter. We practiced our letter writing skills by writing to our First Grade Teachers, an incoming kindergartner and a thank you note to one of our morning helpers! We are so proud of our writers - they are first grade ready!!
In math this week, we learned to tell time to the hour. We had fun listening to the story - The Grouchy Ladybug -and setting our own little clocks to match the times in the book!
*We will be collecting take home books and bags next week. We are so proud of our little readers! Thank you for all of the practice at home!!*ALL library books should also be returned to school next week.
*Be sure to check back on our BLOG for photos of our Riveredge Field Trip!
Have a wonderful long weekend!
