Weekly Newsletter- January 29-February 2nd

Dear families,

A busy, busy, full week in kindergarten!

Skills:

In skills, we are working hard on reading and writing words with b's and d's correctly.  This is something we can practice at home!  Deciding if the letter is a b or a d can be tricky.  One way we can check is by making our bed!  Ask your kindergartners how they can do that!

We are continuing to work on CCVC and CVCC words. Examples of these words are flat, spot, milk, and land.  Keep on working on these words at home.  If you check the notes that are being sent home, you will see some fun ways to practice these words.

Knowledge:

We finished up our Kings and Queens unit! The students had such a fun time celebrating with a royal tea party.  We hope you had a chance to take a peek at our Seesaw to see our day!  Thank you to all the families that donated the special items.  The students loved the muffins, grapes, chocolate, and pink lemonade.

This week, we also learned about Groundhog's Day. If the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter.  As a class, we created a graph of our predictions.  We will have to see if our predictions are right!

Math:
We are continuing our work learning about 2D and 3D shapes in math.  Students learned to sort shapes by shape, color, and size.  Students also sorted shapes by straight lines and curves. We are also working on the correct way to draw 2D shapes.  We practice these through games and fun activities.  Have your kindergartner practice drawing squares, circles, hexagons, rectangles, triangles, and rhombuses.

Reminders:
Tomorrow is Jaguar Jump Start!  We will start our day in the gym for an all-school assembly.  Please wear your spirit wear or blue tomorrow.

A bag to put your child's snow gear in is helpful.  Please be sure to LABEL the bag and all your child's snow gear.

If you have any paper grocery bags with handles, we will gladly take them!

Students can start bringing in their valentines for their friends starting on February 8th.  There are 39 students in our class.  Do NOT have your child address the valentines- simply have your child sign his/her name on the card.

The 101st day of school is on Tuesday, February 13th.  Students are welcome to dress up like a dalmation that day!

On Valentine's Day, students are welcome to dress up like a doctor!  We are going to all be cardiologists!

Thank you!
