Weekly Newsletter-February 26- March 1

February 29, 2024

Dear Families,
We continue to be so busy in kindergarten!  Can you believe that March is here?! We all hope to see more "lamb" days instead of "lion" in the next few weeks!

ELA

Skills: During Skills, we continue reviewing the diagraphs of sh, ch, th, qu, and ng.  We work on blending and segmenting these words.  We also practice writing these words too!  Ask your kindergartner how to write words like, ship, trash, this, rang, etc.  They can do it!  This week we also started to practice writing our tricky words.  On one side of the paper, we all practiced together; on the other, we had to write the words on our own.  It would be helpful to practice these tricky words at home!

We sent home lots of decodable stories all about Seth and his family.  Have your kindergartner read these stories to you nightly.  Ask your kindergartner who the characters are, where the setting is, and the events that happened in the story.  Remind your kindergartner to speak in complete sentences!  They can do it!

We read the story The Three Billy Goats Fluff by Rachael Mortimer this week - WE LOVED IT!! While listening to the story, we worked on the strategies of predicting, sequencing the story, retelling, and making connections.  We also listened to the original version of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  We did a great job of comparing and contrasting the 2 stories!

Please enjoy the video link to the story "The Three Billy Goats Fluff"

Math
We continue to work on identifying 2D and 3D shapes.  We played a fun bingo game where students had to listen to clues about the attributes of the shapes.  If that particular shape was on their bingo board, they could color it in.  So fun!  Students continue to work on counting to 100 by 1s and by 10s.  Please have your kindergartners practice this at home!  Many of us need extra practice!

Tomorrow is an Early Release Day!  Be sure to inform your teacher if your child's going-home plans change.

Remember to send your child to school with a snack!  Many students are forgetting to have a snack in the afternoon.  The Ritz crackers and Graham crackers are for our morning snacks.  :)  Thanks!

Thanks for all of your support from home!!
💚💛Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
