Weekly Newsletter- February 12-16th

Dear Families,

What a busy week we had in kindergarten!  We celebrated the 100th day with Pirate Pete on Monday, becoming Dalmatians on the 101st day of school on Tuesday, and becoming cardiologists on Valentine's Day!  So much fun!

Enjoy some pictures from Kinder Cardiology Day!

Skills

During skills this week we learned about the qu and the ng.  We have been practicing reading and writing words that have qu and ng.  We continue reviewing our letter sounds, tricky words, and practicing segmenting and blending.  Ask your kindergartner to spell words like quilt, quit, quest, rang, sang, swing.  They can do it!

This week one of our read alouds was Abe Lincoln's Hat by Martha Brenner.  While listening to the story, we worked on the skills of predicting and identifying the problem and the solution.  Our focus vocabulary words were President and slavery...be sure to ask us what those words mean.

Here is a video link to the story to enjoy!

This week we are celebrating Valentine's Day!  To help us celebrate, we worked on the poem "Monster Love"  Ask your kindergartner to sing it to you.

Math

We continue to work on attributes of shapes.  For example, if the shape is big/small, what color is it, does it have straight lines, etc.  Today, we played a fun game where Mrs. Rocky had a shape in her pocket, and we had to guess what it was using shape attributes!

*Fancy Dance is on Saturday, February 17th.  Check the Thursday folder for more info!
* Tomorrow is Jaguar Jumpstart!  Wear your Jaguar spirit gear or the color blue!
* Label with your child's first and last name their snow gear!  We were able to locate lots of lost mittens and gloves this way!
* Remember to pack an afternoon snack for your child!
