Families,
Yay! Welcome to Kindergarten! We are so happy that your child is here! We have been working hard on the rules and routines of kindergarten. We are learning how to get ready for the start of our day, learning how to go to lunch, and how to be at recess. We are busy, busy, BUSY!
Our morning is broken up into two parts- Skills and Knowledge. During our skills time, we have been working on identifying sounds and counting out how many sounds we hear. We are also working on proper pencil grasp (the tripod grasp) and making vertical and horizontal lines. We are setting a strong foundation for our work later in the year.
During our Knowledge part of the day, we are working on our Nursery Rhymes unit. So far we have learned "Roses are Red" "Ring Around the Rosie" "It's Raining, It's Pouring" "Rain Rain Go Away" "Jack Be Nimble" "Little Jack Horner" "Jack and Jill" and "Little Miss Muffet". During this time we are identifying rhyming words, the main characters, and main events. We are learning lots of new vocabulary words like "fetch" "pouring" and "tuffet" Ask your kindergartner which Nursery Rhyme is their favorite!
In Math, we have been looking at our shoes! We are learning about attributes and how we can classify objects. We have been working on counting to 10 and beyond! We are also learning how to do our math workplaces. We have been exploring lots of fun math materials like pattern blocks, unifix cubes, and polydrons. Ask your kindergartner about these fun materials!
Tomorrow is our first Jaguar Jumpstart! Please be sure that your child arrives at school on time. Your child can wear Jaguar gear or our school colors!
Remember to check your child's homework bag and green folder nightly! Be sure to take all papers out of the bag and folder. These sheets are for you to keep at home and review.
Remember to send your child with a snack daily! We do have some here for emergencies.
We are going to Riveredge on Thursday the 28th. We will be going rain or shine! Be sure that your child is dressed appropriately. If you have signed up to be a chaperone, please get in your paperwork by the 14th.
Thank you so much for all of your support!
Love,
Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
