Weekly Newsletter April 10-14

 Dear Parents,

It's been a great week in Kindergarten!  We had so much fun starting off our week with Baseball Day - we hope you enjoyed all of the photos!!

The story this week was Tops and Bottoms.  It is a very silly story about Hear and Bear.  Hear asked Bear if he could use his land to plant some crops.  Bear said that he would take the tops of the plants while Rabbit would take the bottom of the plants.  When the crops were harvested, Bear was in for a big surprise!  Ask your kindergartner what happened!  While listening to the story, students worked on predicting, retelling, inferring and stating their opinion. Ask your kindergartner about their favorite part of the story!

Our vocabulary words were gathered and clever.  Be sure to ask your child to tell you what they mean.
This week in phonics,  we learned the FLOSS rule.  We practiced reading and writing words that follow this rule...like cliff, full, boss and fuzz.  Be sure to ask your child to write some of these words for you at home!
We worked on 2 sight words this week were and their. Here is the game we played to practice reading all of our sight words.  Ask your child to tell you where the veggies were hiding!
This week's poem is called "Plant Song"  Be sure to ask us about the words germination and photosynthesis!!
In writing, we are working on Opinion books.  We enjoyed eating an OREO and learned how it can help us write a great opinion paper! O is for opinion, R is for reason, E is for extra reason and O is for opinion.  You can see the anchor chart that hangs in our room to remind us of these steps! Be sure to ask your kindergartner all about their opinion writing this week.

Math
This week in math our focus was on solving story problems.  We used the strategy of drawing a picture to help us solve the problems.  We could practice this at home, too.  Give us a story problem to solve...we could use paper and pencil or a dry erase board to draw a picture to help us solve our problem and write our equations!

Thank you for all of your continued support,
💕 Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
