Weekly Newsletter March 20-24

Dear Families,
BRING on SPRING!! We are ALL ready to ditch our snow boots and coats for spring jackets!!

This week in ELA, we read Piggie Pie by Margie Palatini. While listening to the story, we worked on the strategies of predicting, visualizing, retelling, inferring, and making text to text connections!! It was hilarious - we all LOVED this story! Be sure to ask your child about his/her favorite part!
We all know what cackled and lumbered means...ask us to tell you!
Our 2 new sight words were be and there.  We had to read them and find them in our game all week.  Be sure to ask us where those sneaky piggies were hiding!
In phonics this week we worked on the /ang/ ending.  We can read and write words like hang, sang, rang, bang and clang! Ask us to show you at home!
This week our poem was Spring Celebration! We sang our poem, we read our poem, and we made up movements for our poem.  We know you will like watching us perform our poem on Seesaw on Friday!
In Writer's Workshop, we started a new writing unit! We are learning how to write an Opinion piece! This week we practiced telling our opinions to our partners in a game called Would You Rather! We are looking forward to learning all about this new writing genre!

In Math this week, our students had experiences with measurement. We spent time comparing the weights of objects stressing the concepts of heavier and lighter. We also estimated and counted capacity in non-standard units, with a focus on counting by 10's and 1's!

Thank you Mr. Hannem for coming to our Thorson Nature Center and teaching us how to find and tap a Maple tree! We can't wait to see how much sap we collect from our kindergarten tree! When we get back from Spring Break we will get to try our Thorson Maple Syrup - yay!

GREAT NEWS!!
The entire school earned a PBIS reward today!! We traveled Around the World (Thorson) and learned about 3 different countries from different teachers in our school! Be sure to ask us which countries we visited and what we learned!

Have a WONDERFUL Spring Break!!
💚💛Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
