Weekly Newsletter Nov. 7-10

Dear Families,

Our first quarter of Kindergarten is in the books! Wow - time flies!! We are looking forward to meeting with you about your child's progress on the 17th and 21st!

ELA
This week in phonics we started working on the /at/ and /ap/ word families.  We worked on making words and segmenting and blending words with these endings.  We could practice this at home, too!  Give us a few words - like...mat, pat, hat, sap, map, tap and we can sound them out for you!!

This week our poem was Out in the Garden.  We know you will enjoy watching them perform it on Seesaw tomorrow!
We worked on 2 new sight words this week - so & no.  Be sure to ask your children to read the words and to tell you where the scarecrows were hiding in our game!
The story this week was Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was! While listening to the story, students worked on the strategies of predicting, retelling the key details, making a connection, understanding the character, and stating their opinions.  As you can see in the picture below, we also worked on the vocabulary words peek and worried!

In writing, we celebrated completing our Show and Tell Writing Unit.  I hope your child sat down and read his/her Thorson School story to you.   We are now moving on to our Narrative Writing Unit!

In math, we read the book Butterfly Countdown.  We explored the concepts of 1 less and counting backwards.  We pretended to be the butterflies and we used unifix cubes and ten-frame counting mats to demonstrate our understanding of these concepts!

We started a new Science Unit this week!  We are very excited to learn all about Weather and the Seasons!

We loved participating in our Green Squad Stewardship Day! We helped take care of our outdoor space by spreading mulch!

*Monday is our 50's Day celebration!  Your child is welcome to come dressed like the 50's.  Thank you to all of the families that donated $$.  And a special thank you to our room moms that purchased everything we needed to make this day so special!!

*With winter weather approaching - please remember to label your child's winter gear!

Have a fabulous weekend!
💕Mrs. Neuville & Mrs. Rocky
