Weekly Newsletter October 10-14

October 13, 2022
Dear Families,
It's Fire Prevention Month and our Kindergarten Fire Station is looking good!! We can't wait to get a chance to visit the Dramatic Play Center next week!! In preparation - we have been setting things up and making labels for all of our fire station supplies.  We even helped write the beginning sounds for our labels...check them out in the pictures below!

ELA
This week we focused on Otis stories by Loren Long.  We worked on many skills including making predictions, sequencing, retelling and making connections and we even learned some new vocabulary words! Be sure to ask your child about our stories.  We LOVE Otis!!

We LOVED them all!!
In phonics, it was a review week.  We practiced our letter names and sounds and worked hard on isolating the beginning sounds in words that begin with these letters.  That is really tricky for many of us - it would be great to practice this at home!
Our poem this week was the Itsy Bitsy Spider.  It is not the traditional nursery rhyme - be sure to ask your child to sing it for you!!
Our 2 new sight words were /me/ and /my/.  Here is the fun game we played all week long to practice all of our words.  Ask your child where those sneaky spiders were hiding!!
During Writer's Workshop we have been  working hard on stretching out the sounds we hear in words.  Practice this at home whenever you have a chance!! You can help them stretch out the word - and have your child write the letters that make each sound.  It is age appropriate to write /rit/ for write!! We hope you have enjoyed reading and listening to the pattern books they have been writing - we are soooo proud of their work!!
Math
This week we were introduced to a new math tool! It has a few different names - number rack, math rack or rekenrek. Number racks facilitate the natural development of our kindergartners' number sense.  The 2 rows of red and white colored beads encourage our little mathematicians to think in groups of 5s and 10s.  Be sure to ask your child if they enjoyed using the math rack during math class this week!

*PUMPKIN DROP OFF!! On Sunday, October 16th, Please remember to drop off a pumpkin or 2 at DOOR #3 (southeast corner of the building) before noon.  Look for the Neuville/Rocky sign on the bin.  Thank you!!

*Please remember to send 2 snacks each day!

*Our extra snack bin is running low for those children that do not have a snack from home.  Any prepackaged snacks (nutri grain bars, goldfish cracker packages, mini pretzel packages, veggie straw packages, etc) would be greatly appreciated!!

Have a great weekend!
💚💛Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
