Dear Families,
Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed! What a fun way to start off our week! Here are a few pictures from our Apple Day! Thank you to ALL of the families that sent in supplies to make our day extra special!
We learned about Johnny Appleseed and then followed step by step directions to draw him!We colored and read a Johnny Appleseed book! We hope you enjoyed hearing it at home, too!
Check out our cute apple project!
ELA
This week our read aloud was Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. We worked on the reading strategies of predicting, naming the characters and setting, sequencing the story, comparing and contrasting Chrysanthemum and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, inferring and stating our opinions. Be sure to ask your child if he/she thinks it was OK to make fun of Chrysanthemum's name.
Be sure to ask us what our 2 vocabulary words mean!
We did a great job of predicting what will happen in the story! Our new sight words were /the/ and /we/. We played a game each day to try and find Johnny Appleseed's apples. Ask your child to read the words below and tell you where the apples were hiding!
In phonics, we worked on the letters /c/ /f/ /d/ and /g/. We practiced writing the letters, learning the sounds and hand motions that go along with each letter, and finding words that begin with each letter, too. Please review these letter sounds with your child at home!
We love our Apples poem from this week! We would love to sing it for you at home!
Writing
In writers workshop, we are working on writing pattern books. We are trying to stretch out our words to hear each sound. This can be really tricky! A little practice from home would be super helpful. Writing apple - apl is exactly how it sounds! We are also learning to use spaces between our words and end our sentences with punctuation, too. We can do it!!Math
In math we have been learning how to play some fun Work Place games! We also took our i-Ready math assessment. Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky were so proud of us - it was tricky at first - but we did not give up! We kept working and doing our best! We are excited to begin the i-Ready personalized lessons and games!
*Your child will be bringing home a book bag today! We are working on figuring out the correct levels for each child. There are instructions in the bag. If the book is too easy - it's OK. It's a great way to build confidence and practice those beginning sight words. If the book is too hard - be sure to read the words for your child and have him/her repeat the word and point with their pointer pup. Thank you!
*Tomorrow is BULLDOG DAY at Thorson - be sure to wear black and/or orange to show your support for our Cedarburg Bulldogs! It is their Homecoming!!*Please remember to send 2 snacks daily - NO HANGRY KIDS in kindergarten:)
*With colder mornings- please label all jackets, sweatshirts, etc
Have a great weekend!
💕Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky
