Weekly Newsletter- April 4th-8th

 Dear Parents,

This week we worked on the -ar & -or spelling pattern.   Words like chart, shark, fork, and porch are just to name a few words in this spelling pattern.  The students practiced building the words and reading the words.  We looked for the words in our stories and poems.  This week we also practiced the star words "there" and "be".  We continue to practice these words daily.  Please be sure to practice these words with your child!

The story this week was Tops and Bottoms.  It is a very silly story about Hear and Bear.  Hear asked Bear if he could use his land to plant some crops.  Bear said that he would take the tops of the plants while Rabbit would take the bottom of the plants.  When the crops were harvested, Bear was in for a big surprise!  Ask your kindergartner what happened!  While listening to the story, students worked on identifying the problem and solution, retelling, inference, making connections, and stating their opinion.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was.

We work on a poem each week.  This week's poem is called "Plant Song"  We created movements, looked for rhyming words, and sorted out word families.  We are sure you have heard this poem often at home!  Check out your child's Seesaw journal to see the class performing the song.

In math we are working on the concept that a teen number is 10 and some more.  We have used double ten frames to explore and work on this idea.  The students would also look at two of the double tens frame cards and determine which card is more and which card is less.  Take a look at your child's
Seesaw journal to see what we are up to!

In writing, we have finished up our All About- informative writing unit.  We are now starting to write our opinions.  We used Oreos to help us understand what needs to be included when we write our opinion.
O=Opinion
R=Reason
E=Extra Reason
O-Opinion (state it in a different way)
