Wear Green Tomorrow for Earth Day
Walking School Bus Tomorrow(in the event of rain it will be cancelled)
A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Parents,
I hope that you are enjoying this beautiful day. This week we participated in a service learning project with our Stuff the Bus food drive. I continue to be amazed at the generosity of our Thorson students and families! We have a terrific school community and this project certainly illustrates that. Thank you to the Student Council and parent volunteers for coordinating this project.
Although it is warm today, this is not the case every day during spring in Wisconsin. Students must wear coats/jackets at recess if the temperature is below 55 degrees. It may be helpful to leave a light jacket or fleece here at school so that your child has it for recess if needed.
Tomorrow we are celebrating Earth Day! Students and staff are encouraged to wear green to school. Additionally, please join us for our “Walking School Bus” event. Staff will be meeting students at Georgetown Park, Lions Park, and the Hefner’s parking lot to walk to school. See the flyer below for more information. In the event of rain, the “Walking School Bus” will be canceled and an email will be sent to all families to communicate this.
Please be sure to let the school office know about any changes to going home plans, including a change of who is picking up your child. Your child’s safety is our top priority, and we want to make sure that students get to the right place with the right person. The best way to communicate a going home change is with a note sent to school with your child or by calling the school office at 262-376-6700. Thank you for your help with this.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Angela Little, Principal
Brittany Kleeba, Assistant Principal

Hearing Screenings:
We will soon be offering hearing screenings to our students in the 4K, 5K, 1st, 3rd & 5th-grade classrooms. Additionally, any students that are new to the district, along with any 2nd and/or 4th-grade students that are referred by their teachers for testing, will also be screened.
Performing annual hearing screenings allows for an opportunity to find those students that may be experiencing hearing loss that has not yet have been detected. Catching these potential hearing impairments early will allow for prompt intervention, if necessary, and help our students continue to be successful learners in the classroom.
The Cedarburg School District has partnered with our local Lions Club of Wisconsin to assist with identifying those children at risk for vision related problems that can impact the child's academic ability and development, both in and out of the classroom. They utilize recommendations set forth by the American Optometric Association, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, and The American Public Health Association to provide vision screenings to students in grades 4K through 5th grade.
The hearing screenings are scheduled to occur at the following dates and times:

Green Team
Help the Thorson Green Team by turning your Coca-Cola product purchases into donations to Thorson. You can donate by going to coke.com/give/schools and selecting Thorson Elementary. Then scan or enter product codes from participating products. Codes are located on the inside of caps or printed inside cardboard cases. If you don't have the time, please bring the codes to school and put them in the RED bucket inside the front doors. Donations received will be used to fund Green Team projects at Thorson.
Thorson is renewing its interest in the Crayola ColorCycle program. This program converts old markers into energy as well as wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles. The process repurposes the entire marker, regardless of the different kinds of plastics or how they are assembled. ALL brands of markers, highlighters and dry erase markers can be recycled. Markers can be placed in the WHITE bucket near the front doors or in the GREEN buckets throughout the building.
Absent/Late Arrival-
If you are going to be late or absent, please call the Thorson attendance line at 262-376-6766 before 9:00 a.m. Please state your student's first and last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. If you are going to be late and are taking hot lunch, please let us know your child's lunch choice by calling the school office at 262-376-6705.

2022 Thorson Elementary Oak Leaf Award
It is time to nominate a deserving Thorson parent or staff member for the Thorson Oak Leaf Award. Please take a moment to read this whole note. The purpose of this award is to recognize a Thorson school community volunteer who has gone “above and beyond the call of duty” to
make Thorson a better place for our children, students, and school community.
Perhaps you know someone who has given much of their own time as a Thorson volunteer or someone who has selflessly contributed whenever they were asked. Maybe it is someone who has helped out “behind the scenes” at almost every PTO event, without a chairperson title or recognition, or perhaps there is someone who has done something exceptional for our school this year. You may want to nominate someone who has contributed throughout the years and is now “moving on” to middle school.
We know that these past few years have not provided a lot of opportunities to be involved "in" Thorson as parent volunteers, but there are plenty of people who have helped these past several years, and continue to be involved in supporting our school community this year. We thank ALL OF YOU who have helped make this year and every year a little brighter with your support!
**Special Note re: Staff Nominations: The Thorson Elementary Oak Leaf Award is a "volunteer" award, and is not meant to be a teaching or staff excellence award. This award is meant to recognize someone who has given of their time to PTO and the Thorson school community outside of their typical teaching/staff role.**
Oak Leaf Award Nominations are due by Friday, April 29th!
Voting will take place May 5th - 15th.
Oak Leaf Award voting is meant for the Thorson Elementary school community only.
Voters must be current members of Thorson PTO in order to vote.
