Wear Orange Tomorrow for School Guard Crossing Appreciation

 BAND IS CANCELLED FOR TOMORROW

A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Families,

Although the start of 2022 was very cold, we have finally warmed up a bit. The staff and students have been excited to have the temperature in the 30s and are enjoying their time outdoors.

As a safety reminder, please use the crosswalks at Thorson at all times during arrival and dismissal. It is very dangerous for students/parents to be crossing in the middle of the street, or walking through the driveway, especially with slippery conditions. Parent vehicles should never drive through the circular drive during these times unless your child needs access to the handicapped parking. Also, please be sure to only park in marked parking spaces in the parking lot during arrival and dismissal time. Cars parked in other areas will be asked to move. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe!

The end of the second quarter of the school year is next week, and our spring parent teacher conference night will be following. If you are satisfied with the communication you have received from your child's teacher, and you understand your child’s academic strengths and areas for growth, you are not required to schedule a spring conference. However, we will continue to offer traditional conferences, so if you feel a conference would be beneficial for your child, save February 17th on your calendar so you can be sure to sign up for a conference. Our teachers appreciate knowing your concerns and working with you to resolve any issues as they arise, so always email or call your child’s teacher whenever there is a need.

Please note that next week is a short week. There is no school on Monday as it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There is also no school next Friday, January 21, as this is a professional development day to close out the second quarter.

Have a great long weekend!

Sincerely,

Angela Little, Principal

Brittany Kleeba, Assistant Principal

School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week
School Cross Guard Appreciation Week is January 10-14.

Green Team
Help the Thorson Green Team by turning your Coca-Cola product purchases into donations to Thorson.  You can donate by going to coke.com/give/schools and selecting Thorson Elementary.  Then scan or enter product codes from participating products.  Codes are located on the inside of caps or printed inside cardboard cases.  If you don't have the time, please bring the codes to school and put them in the RED bucket inside the front doors.  Donations received will be used to fund Green Team projects at Thorson.

Thorson is renewing its interest in the Crayola ColorCycle program.  This program converts old markers into energy as well as wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles. The process repurposes the entire marker, regardless of the different kinds of plastics or how they are assembled. ALL brands of markers, highlighters and dry erase markers can be recycled.  Markers can be placed in the WHITE bucket near the front doors or in the GREEN buckets throughout the building.

Yearbook
If you have not yet purchased a yearbook for the 2021-2022 school year, there is still time to make your purchase. All yearbook orders need to be placed by January 21, 2022. You may do so by signing into your Skyward account. Then select "Fee Management" and "Make a payment". There will not be extra yearbooks at distribution in late May/early June, so please purchase today.

Absent/Late Arrival-
If you are going to be late or absent, please call the Thorson attendance line at 262-376-6766 before 9:00 a.m.  Please state your student's first and last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence.  If you are going to be late and are taking hot lunch, please let us know your child's lunch choice by calling the school office at 262-376-6705.
