Dear Families,
Our first quarter of Kindergarten is in the books! Wow - time flies!! We are looking forward to meeting with you about your child's progress on the 18th and 22nd!
ELA
This week in phonics we started working on the /at/ and /ap/ word families. We worked on making words and segmenting and blending words with these endings. We could practice this at home, too! Give us a few words - like...mat, pat, hat, sap, map, tap and we can sound them out for you!!
This week our poem was I'm a Little Scarecrow. We hope you enjoyed watching them perform it on Seesaw!
We worked on 2 new sight words this week - so & no. Be sure to ask your children to read the words and to tell you where the scarecrows were hiding in our game!
The story this week was Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes. Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was! While listening to the story, students worked on the strategies of predicting, retelling the key details, making a connection, and stating their opinions. As you can see in the picture below, we also worked on the vocabulary words peek and worried!
In writing, we are continuing to write Show and Tell Stories. This week we worked on writing a story about Cedarburg. The kids are doing an amazing job of remembering to start their sentences with a capital letter, put spaces between words, make sure there is a period at the end of a sentence and stretching out the sounds in each word - YAY!!
In math, we read the book Butterfly Countdown. We explored the concepts of 1 less and counting backwards. We pretended to be the butterflies and we used unifix cubes and ten-frame counting mats to demonstrate our understanding of these concepts!
We started a new Science Unit this week! We are very excited to learn all about Weather and the Seasons!
*Tomorrow is our 50's Day celebration! Thank you to all of the families that donated supplies to make our day so special!
*With winter weather approaching - please remember to label your child's winter gear!
Have a fabulous weekend!
💕Mrs. Neuville & Mrs. Rocky
