Weekly Newsletter February 5-8

February 8, 2024

Dear Families,

We are working hard in kindergarten! We cannot believe it is ALMOST day 100!!! We are looking forward to celebrating next week!!!

SKILLS

This week we learned ALL about the digraphs ch, sh and th.  We learned that a digraph is 2 letters that work together to make 1 sound.  We blended sounds together to read words with these digraphs. We even used our chaining folders to build words with digraphs - WOW!! We practiced with all of the words below - be sure to ask your child to tap our the sounds and read the words at home to you.

To practice our new learning - we played a fun game of Groundhog tic-tac-toe - girls against the boys! Be sure to ask your child to tell you who won!  You can see that our new tricky word is down!

Our story this week was Hooway for Wodney Wat.   While listening to the story, students worked on visualizing, sequencing, retelling, making connections, and stating their opinion.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was.

Here is a video link to the story to enjoy!

Since February is dental health month, we had fun learning a new poem about a loose tooth! Be sure to ask your child to sing this for you at home!

Math

We are continuing our work learning about 2D and 3D shapes in math.  Students learned to sort shapes by shape, color, and size.  Students also sorted shapes by straight lines and curves. We are also working on the correct way to draw 2D shapes.  We practice these through games and fun activities.  Have your kindergartner practice drawing squares, circles, hexagons, rectangles, triangles, and rhombuses.
