A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Families,

We are in the final stretch of the school year, with just 15 school days left. As we enter these last few weeks, we are busy planning for many culminating activities to celebrate our year together. Tonight we will have the chance to honor our 5th graders with their Fine Arts night, which will include a music concert and display of artwork created this year. There are also many  field trips and other fun activities going on these last few weeks. Stay tuned to emails/newsletters from your child’s teachers for all of the details. Also, please watch for a parent volunteer sign-up for Field Day, which will take place on Friday, June 9. We will be looking for many parent volunteers, so please keep that in mind if you have availability on that date.

Our Green Squad Penny War is going well. As of Thursday morning, we have collected a total of $1,862.23. Our current classroom standings are as follows:

1ST PLACE-Mrs. Leja - $256.75
2ND PLACE - Mrs. Hoerchner $226.68
3RD PLACE - Mrs. Houben $204.94
4TH PLACE- Ms. Fink $199.42
5TH PLACE- Mrs. Rocky $151.71

We still need to add in the amounts collected today and we have one more day to bring in coins and dollar bills for our collection. Thank you to all who have already participated! We appreciate your support. We will provide an update of our final collection details next week!

Now is the time to order your school supply kits for next year. The Thorson PTO is working with The Write Stuff so that parents can quickly and easily take care of their child’s school supplies for next year. To order your school supply kit, go to www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/thorson. Kits will be delivered directly to school, or you can choose home shipping for a fee. Free shipping to school ends on June 15.

In other PTO news, the PTO hosted a successful “Boys Take on the Burg” scavenger hunt event this past weekend. Thank you to the chairs of this event for all of the planning and hard work to make this a reality. It was a blast and was great to see so many families participating. Looking ahead, please note that our next PTO meeting will be on Monday, June 5, which is a change from the date that was originally scheduled for the year.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Angela Little, Principal
Scott May, Assistant Principal

5th Grade Band
As a reminder, there will be no morning band lessons until after Memorial Day. A detailed calendar can be found using the link below, which also includes dates for the final school assembly concerts. On your school's concert date, students need to bring their instruments, music, and stands to school. Students can wear their regular school clothes to school on those days. After each of the concerts, we will collect instruments from the students that are returning their rentals back to the White House of Music. Students will keep their books and stands. Please have a discussion with your child whether they are keeping or returning their instrument for the summer. Please let me know if you have any questions: awestgate@cedarburg.k12.wi.us

Get your school supplies now for next year!

The PTO has organized a school supplies kit service for the next school year again for anyone who is interested! The Write Stuff is a woman-owned company located not too far away in Elburn, IL They provided great service for us the past 3 years!

This service offers you the opportunity to purchase a kit that includes all the items on your child's school supplies list for 2023-24. It is completely optional! The benefit is that it helps you avoid the rush in August trying to find that [insert specific color] notebook or other item that you wouldn't expect to be hard to find (spoken from experience). The bonus is that you are able to edit your kit to remove anything you already have (eg, markers or pencils leftover from this year or headphones that you don't need more of). This service does not benefit the PTO in any way (e.g., it is not a fundraiser).

The Thorson Elementary School The Write Stuff store is now open at www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/thorson. There is free delivery to the school (in August) if you order by June 15th. The store will remain open until July 15th (standard delivery fees apply after 6/15). Instructions are included in the attached flyer. The 2023-24 school supplies lists can be found here. There are a couple of things that are on the list that The Write Stuff doesn't carry (eg, art smocks, backpacks.)

Please contact Kassy Bartelme at 651-894-2224 or kmbartelme@gmail.com with any questions!

2023 Thorson PTO Oak Leaf Award
The purpose of the Thorson PTO Oak Leaf award is to recognize a Thorson school community volunteer who has gone “above and beyond the call of duty” to make Thorson a better place for our children, students, and school community.
We know that these past few years have not provided as many opportunities to be as involved at Thorson as parent volunteers, but there are plenty of people who have still found ways to help, and continue to be involved in supporting our school community this year. We thank ALL OF YOU who have helped make this year and every year a little brighter with your support!

See the link below to read the nominations for each of the candidates.
Oak Leaf Award voting is meant for the Thorson Elementary school community only.
Voters must be current members of Thorson PTO in order to vote.
Voting ends on Friday, May 19th, 2023 at 9:00 pm CDT.
