Weekly Newsletter- January 30-February 3

Dear families,

This week we talked about the digraphs th and wh.  We talked about what sounds each digraph makes.  We blended sounds together to read words with these digraphs.  We have worked on the Star Words all and from.  Check out your child's Seesaw work to see how they are doing with their phonemic awareness.

The story this week was Hooway for Wodney Wat.   While listening to the story, students worked on visualizing, retelling, inference, making connections, and stating their opinion.  Ask your kindergartner what their favorite part of the story was.

Here is a video link to the story to enjoy!

We are continuing our work learning about 2D and 3D shapes in math.  Students learned to sort shapes by shape, color, and size.  Students also sorted shapes by straight lines and curves. We are also working on the correct way to draw 2D shapes.  We practice these through games and fun activities.  Have your kindergartner practice drawing squares, circles, hexagons, rectangles, triangles, and rhombuses.

In writing, we are starting to work on informational writing.   We learned that these types of books are used to teach someone about a topic.  As a class, we are writing an informational story about soccer.

Reminders:
Tomorrow is Jaguar Jump Start!  We will start our day in the gym for an all-school assembly.  Please wear your spirit wear or blue tomorrow.

A bag to put your child's snow gear in is helpful.  Please be sure to LABEL the bag and all your child's snow gear.

It is Thorson night at the Cedarburg Bulldogs basketball game!  Check out Thorson's Thursday folder for more information.

Thank you!
