No School Tomorrow!
A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Parents,
Happy Opening Day! We are full of Brewers spirit today at Thorson and look forward to a win this evening. We will celebrate Brew Crew day again next Wednesday in preparation for opening day at American Family Field in Milwaukee. Additionally, April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, recognizing the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Next Thursday, April 14, we will celebrate “Purple Up Day”, and encourage staff and students to wear purple to show support and thank military youth for their strength and sacrifices.
This week is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin. Today, Thorson joined other schools across the state in a tornado drill at 1:45 pm. We discuss safety practices both prior to and following tornado and other emergency drills with our students. It is important for us to communicate the importance of preparedness with our students and affirm that we practice these drills to help us stay safe.
Tomorrow, Friday, April 8 is a Professional Development and Students Records day for our staff, so there is NO SCHOOL for students. Third quarter progress reports will be posted in Skyward on Thursday, April 14. You will receive an email next week when the progress reports have been posted.
Finally, our next PTO meeting is Monday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. Please join us. We are looking for officers for the PTO Board for next year and would encourage interested parents to join us at the meeting.
Have a great long weekend!
Sincerely,
Angela Little, Principal
Brittany Kleeba, Assistant Principal

paper, paper towel, Kleenex, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.

School Planter Boxes
The Thorson PTO graciously granted each grade level a planter box. We are looking for volunteers to each take a week and help tend to our boxes throughout the summer. We have 7 total planter boxes so feel free to bring a friend or two! We would like each volunteer to take a week where they come pull weeds, water(watering can and water provided), and harvest any crops. You are welcome to keep what you pick, give it away, or donate it. If you run any clubs and would like to bring them on your sign-up date that would also be great, feel free to share your week with others! This is a great learning opportunity for our students but it cannot be successful without your help. Depending on what each class plants, you may not have much to do on your week or quite a bit, so thanks for you being flexible. I have the sign up going all the way until August, but you may come and see things have died and just need to be pulled. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Papke. Please sign-up here
Help the Thorson Green Team by turning your Coca-Cola product purchases into donations to Thorson. You can donate by going to coke.com/give/schools and selecting Thorson Elementary. Then scan or enter product codes from participating products. Codes are located on the inside of caps or printed inside cardboard cases. If you don't have the time, please bring the codes to school and put them in the RED bucket inside the front doors. Donations received will be used to fund Green Team projects at Thorson.
Thorson is renewing its interest in the Crayola ColorCycle program. This program converts old markers into energy as well as wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles. The process repurposes the entire marker, regardless of the different kinds of plastics or how they are assembled. ALL brands of markers, highlighters and dry erase markers can be recycled. Markers can be placed in the WHITE bucket near the front doors or in the GREEN buckets throughout the building.

Hearing Screenings:
We will soon be offering hearing screenings to our students in the 4K, 5K, 1st, 3rd & 5th-grade classrooms. Additionally, any students that are new to the district, along with any 2nd and/or 4th-grade students that are referred by their teachers for testing, will also be screened.
Performing annual hearing screenings allows for an opportunity to find those students that may be experiencing hearing loss that has not yet have been detected. Catching these potential hearing impairments early will allow for prompt intervention, if necessary, and help our students continue to be successful learners in the classroom. We will also need volunteers please sign-up!
