Our Weekly News- September 1-3

September 2, 2021

Dear Families,

YAY!! The kids are doing a great job of following our school rules and routines! We are learning what it means to be a positive jaguar! We are so excited that we earned our very first stuffie party!

ELA

One of our Read Alouds this week was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault. We worked on the skills of predicting, sequencing, making comparisons and choral reading!  Be sure to ask your child his/her favorite part!

We have also been practicing our letter names and letter sounds.  We love using our pointer pups to follow along with the song.

Math

This week in math we are exploring numbers 1-10 with ten frames and erasers.  We have also been practicing counting to 100 with this fun exercise song!

*Please be sure to send 2 snacks to school with your child each day.  It would be super helpful to keep the snacks separate from their lunch.

*Friday, September 3rd is Champion Day at Thorson - wear your Bucks gear if you have it!

*Please let the office know if your child's afterschool plans will be changing.

It has been a great first week!  We are so proud of our kindergartners!!

If you have any questions or concerns - please let us know!

Have a great long weekend!

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!!

September 2, 2021

Milwaukee Bucks Day Tomorrow!! Wear your Bucks Jerseys/T-Shirts!

A Note from the Principal:
Dear Thorson Families,

Happy second day of school! We have had a great couple days to start the school year. It has been great to have everyone back and we are excited for an awesome school year!

NEW THIS YEAR: The time to enter school is different from last year! Last year, we entered the building earlier due to different Covid protocols. This year, students do not enter the building until 8:40 a.m. Please plan accordingly and ensure that your child is not dropped off at school any earlier than 8:35 a.m.  Students stand in designated lines until the bell rings at 8:40. School begins promptly at 8:50, and students should be in their seats and ready to go at that time. As a reminder, here is the Arrival/Dismissal Procedures for Thorson. Thank you for your cooperation with this!

During The first three days of school, the staff led students in our Jaguar Pride Roll-Out, which is part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) System. The students went through stations to learn the expected behaviors for the lunchroom, playground, bus lines, bus, hallway, and bathrooms. This year, we have adjusted our three main schoolwide expectations slightly, and are teaching the students how to be Respectful, Responsible, and SAFE. Ask your child what it means to be a Positive Jaguar! Students who display the expectations are given Thorson Pride Tickets. We are proud of our students and are looking forward to seeing them show their Jaguar Pride all year!

Remember, there is no school on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Have a great long weekend!

Sincerely,

Angela Little, Thorson Principal
