Dear Families,
We are looking forward to our Halloween festivities!! We hope you are able to join us for our parade at 3:15 tomorrow!!

The kids LOVED starting off our week with Pumpkin Day! Thank you so much for helping us make this day so special for our kids! Enjoy a few photos of our special day!

ELA Skills
This week we added  the word three to our TRICKY WORD bank! The reason this is a tricky word for us - is because at this time in the year, we have not learned the digraph /th/ or the long vowel sound /ee/. We also worked with the sounds of /n/ /h/ and /s/.  We listened for these sounds in the beginning and ending of words, we blended these sounds to make new words and we segmented words that contained these sounds.  We also learned the correct way to draw a picture of this sound!  Wow!! we have been busy!! Be sure to ask your child to blend and read some words like sad, hit, can, not or dig!

ELA Knowledge
This week we wrapped up our Classic Stories Unit. We played a fun game to review all of our stories.  Poor Goldilocks got lost in the woods and we had to answer questions correctly in order to get her back home safely! Tomorrow will be our Culminating Activity Day! Be sure to ask your child-  about the bridge they had to build for the Billy Goats, if their house for the 3 Little Pigs got blown over from the fan, and how they enjoyed their porridge! We know you will love their wolf headbands, too! Such FUN!

Math
This week we reviewed counting and making Tally Marks.  Tally marks are a great way to visually represent numbers for quick identification.  Kindergartners can use tally marks to practice counting and building numeracy skills. Be sure to ask your child to practice making tally marks at home, too. Remembering to "cross the gate" for 5 - instead of drawing a 5th vertical line...can be tricky!!

As ALWAYS, WE APPRECIATE ALL of your help from home!
*Tomorrow is our Halloween Party.  Remember to send your child's costume to school in a separate bag.  We will be changing into our costumes in the afternoon.

*ALL are welcome to join us for our outdoor Halloween Parade at 3:15 - see the letter from the office for more details.  Don't forget to let us know if your child's after school plans will be changing.

*With colder weather approaching, please remember to label ALL outdoor gear

**Get out your poodle skirts and bobby socks!!! We will be celebrating 50 days in school on Tuesday, November 14th - more info will be coming!

Have a Happy Halloween!!

Weekly Newsletter-October 16-19

Dear Families,
It's Fire Prevention Month and our Kindergarten Fire Station is looking good!! We can't wait to get a chance to visit the Dramatic Play Center! Check out the pictures below!

ELA
We continue to hear some of the classic stories during Knowledge along with a few new ones.  We heard the story The Bremen Town Musicians, Momatro, Peach Boy, and Jumping Mouse.  We are practicing identifying the characters, setting, and plot.  During this time we are learning new vocabulary words, ask your kindergartner what perilous means!

During skills we started learning our tricky words!  We learned that tricky words are words that don't follow the rules.  This week we learned the words "one" and "two" We then read these words in our very own readers!  We used special spider pointers to read each word.

Math:
During math class, we have been working hard at making combinations of 5 and of 10.  This is called decomposing.  We take a big number like 5 and break it down to 1 and 4 or 2 and 3.  We practice this concept through hands-on activities and games.  One of the new games that were introduced was "Which bug will win" Students had an opportunity to spin one of the spinners and keep track of which bug would get to 10 first.

Take a peek at the game here

* No school Friday!
*PUMPKIN DROP OFF!! On Sunday, October 22nd, Please remember to drop off a pumpkin or 2 at DOOR #3 (southeast corner of the building) before noon.
