Happy Summer!

A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Families,

We made it to the last week of the 2022-23 school year!  It has been an amazing year full of laughter, perseverance and learning at Thorson. I would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for your support throughout this school year.  It has been a pleasure to partner with all of you in your child’s education. I would also like to thank our Thorson PTO for all of the support they provide the teachers, our students, and the school as a whole. We are so lucky to have such a generous and supportive community.

We wish the 5th graders farewell and know that they are well prepared for their journey in middle school.  We look forward to hearing about the great things that they do in the years to come. We will honor our 5th grade students at an all-school assembly at the end of the day tomorrow. We also bid farewell to any families who are seeing their last child move on from Thorson this year and any families who are leaving Thorson. Thank you for all you have done to support what we do at Thorson in your time here. We wish you all the best.

The Spring i-Ready Mathematics and Reading diagnostic report for families has been uploaded to your child’s Skyward account. To access the report, sign in to Skyward Family Access, click “Portfolio and Reports” on the left side of the screen, and click on “i-Ready Math/Reading Spring 2023” to download each report.

Attached is the Understanding i-Ready Diagnostic Results and video which will help you interpret the report. The diagnostic report details your student’s placement level(s) that indicate how your student performed on each test in relation to their grade level and includes a National Norm percentile indicating how your student performed in relation to students in the same grade level nationwide.

Fourth quarter progress reports will be posted to Skyward Family Access later next week. You will receive an email when they are available to view.

The summer office hours for Thorson are 7:00-3:00 Monday-Thursday. The office is closed on Fridays. Please call ahead if you are coming in for something as there are times when office staff is away from the office at meetings or in other parts of the building. We will send updates in the summer with registration information and back to school events. I am here at Thorson during the summer, so feel free to reach out with any questions.

Don’t forget that tomorrow is Field Day! We look forward to a fun day outside with the students and parent volunteers. THANK YOU to all who signed up! We are so grateful for your help.

Have a wonderful and safe summer break and enjoy your time with friends and family!

Sincerely,

Angela Little, Principal
Scott May, Assistant Principal

Get your school supplies now for next year!
The PTO has organized a school supplies kit service for the next school year again for anyone who is interested! The Write Stuff is a woman-owned company located not too far away in Elburn, IL They provided great service for us the past 3 years!
This service offers you the opportunity to purchase a kit that includes all the items on your child's school supplies list for 2023-24. It is completely optional! The benefit is that it helps you avoid the rush in August trying to find that [insert specific color] notebook or other item that you wouldn't expect to be hard to find (spoken from experience). The bonus is that you are able to edit your kit to remove anything you already have (eg, markers or pencils leftover from this year or headphones that you don't need more of). This service does not benefit the PTO in any way (e.g., it is not a fundraiser).
The Thorson Elementary School The Write Stuff store is now open at www.write-stuff.com/storefront/school/thorson. There is free delivery to the school (in August) if you order by June 15th. The store will remain open until July 15th (standard delivery fees apply after 6/15). Instructions are included in the attached flyer. The 2023-24 school supplies lists can be found here. There are a couple of things that are on the list that The Write Stuff doesn't carry (eg, art smocks, backpacks.)
Please contact Kassy Bartelme at 651-894-2224 or kmbartelme@gmail.com with any questions!

Thorson Green Squad
Garden Boxes Sign up Link

The Thorson PTO graciously granted each grade level a planter box! We are looking for volunteers to each take a week and help tend to our boxes throughout summer. We have 7 total planter boxes so feel free to bring a friend or two! We would like each volunteer to take a week where they come to pull weeds, water plants (watering can and water provided), and harvest any crops. You are welcome to keep what you pick, give it away, or donate it. If you run any clubs and would like to bring them on your sign up date that would also be great, feel free to share your week with others! Mrs. Papke can also sign papers for any service hours if you volunteer. This is a great learning opportunity for our students, but it cannot be successful without your help! We truly appreciate it! Depending on what each class plants, you may not have much to do on your week or quite a bit of work, so thanks for being flexible! In the past volunteers have come every other day to check on the plants. I have the sign up going all the way until August, but you may come and see that things have died and just need to be pulled, that would also be appreciated. There is a gray box with the hose faucet key ( it is gray and says custodial on it, just put it in and turn left) and watering cans! Thanks again!

Weekly Newsletter June 5-9

Dear Families,
What a GREAT last week of school!! We started out on MONDAY with planting our garden bed, a popsicle treat and we even got to meet Coco!! Our special concert on TUESDAY night was outstanding! We were so proud of our little loves - singing their hearts out.  WEDNESDAY's  lunch on the lawn was a special treat - we even got to see all of our 3rd grade buddies. We really enjoyed listening to the 5th grade Band Concert in the afternoon.   I hope your child told you all about our fun THURSDAY morning at the Rivoli! The Lego Movie was AWESOME and we all enjoyed the popcorn and water bottle.  We are ALL ready for FRIDAY FUNDAY!! We can't wait to participate in our very first Field Day tomorrow!! Be sure to check your child's seesaw account for some videos and pics.

A heartfelt thank you for sharing your most precious gifts with us! We are so GRATEFUL to have had the opportunity to work with you and your children.   We are SO PROUD of each and every one of them! Weekly Newsletter- May 30-June 2

Dear Families,

Can you believe it is June?!?  We're in the final countdown!  One more week of kindergarten left!  Even though there is a little time, we have been busy!

We celebrated our summer birthdays this week by creating a birthday book, wearing a crown, and singing our favorite birthday song.  Have the most wonderful birthdays this summer, friends!

We reviewed our sight words by playing "Where is Your Teacher Hiding?"  Students had to read sight words and pull down a word.  Their goal was to find Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky before all the words were read.  The students did a fantastic job at being able to read the words.  Continue practicing these words over the summer to strengthen your child's skills.

In writing, we worked on creating posters for the high school graduates who will be visiting our school on Friday.  We are so excited to celebrate the big kids on their next adventure!

During math class, we have been learning about money.  We have discussed the penny, nickel, dime, and quarter.  We have learned about who is on the head's side and what is on the tail's side.  We have learned how much each coin is worth and how to count the coins.  We love hearing money songs to help us with identification.  Please enjoy this money video at home!

Thank you all so much for your support!

Take care,
Mrs. Neuville and Mrs. Rocky

Wear Bulldogs or Orange and Black Tomorrow

A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Families,

Today was the first day of our Thorson Summer Countdown. We started off with Throson spirit wear day today. Tomorrow, students will have the opportunity to get together with their buddy classes. Tomorrow will also be the district’s annual CHS graduate walk through. The graduating class of 2023 will walk through each elementary school, going back to where they began their career. We invite students and staff to wear bulldog gear or orange/black to school tomorrow!

We are looking forward to a fun last week of school, with an all-school assembly and lunch outside with staff on Wednesday, our all-school PBIS field trip to the Rivoli (K-3) and Skateland (4-5) on Thursday, and our annual Field Day on Friday. We still have a few volunteer spots available for field day, so please consider helping if you are able. Click here to sign up. Also, please be sure to watch for communication from your child’s teacher regarding details for all of these events.

All student chromebooks and charging cords will need to be returned to school by the end of the school day on June 9th.  If a chromebook and/or charging cord is not returned by the required time, the chromebook and/or charging cord will be considered lost and the student's skyward account will be charged the replacement cost of the chromebook and/or charging cord.  If the chromebook and/or cord is returned late, the lost charge will be converted to a $25 non-refundable late charge.  If you have any questions, please contact the IT department at aengevold@cedarburg.k12.wi.us.

Tomorrow is the last day to bring in items for the Girl Scout Humane Society Donation Drive. Thanks to those who have already contributed items.  Click here to see the wish list. Thank you for your help!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Angela Little, Principal
