DON'T FORGET TO PACK YOUR COSTUME TOMORROW!
A Note from the Principal
Dear Thorson Families,
We have had a great week at Thorson. It has been fun to see all of the decorated pumpkins coming in for our annual Pumpkin Days celebration. The creativity of our students and families is amazing! The pumpkins will be placed outside on the benches tomorrow afternoon for you to retrieve. We are looking forward to our fun activities tomorrow. Details for tomorrow can be found here.
If you have not done so already, please be sure to log in to your Skyward Family Access account and sign up for a Fall Parent/Teacher Conference. All families are respectfully requested to sign up for a conference. Please be sure to indicate whether you would like a virtual or in-person conference. Details regarding conferences and sign-up directions can be found here.
Finally, we are busy preparing for our Veteran’s Day celebration. We invite veterans to join us in our special car procession past the three elementary schools. If your family has a veteran who can join us for this procession, please fill out this form. We will also be doing a service project to collect money to send a veteran on an Honor Flight. The Honor Flight is a sweet opportunity to celebrate the veterans of foreign wars. Many of the men and women who served our country have not been to Washington D.C. to view the memorials that stand in their honor. The Honor Flight is a coordinated trip from Milwaukee to Washington for a one day tour of the memorials. The veterans are treated to bus transportation between the memorials and a personally narrated tour. They receive mail from grateful citizens on their way home and a hero's welcome upon their return to Milwaukee. Please consider helping us with this effort. More details about both of these items can be found below.
Thank you for your continued support. Weather permitting, we hope to see many of you tomorrow at our annual Halloween Parade!
Sincerely,
Angela Little, Principal
Brittany Kleeba, Assistant Principal

Thorson Green Squad All School Stewardship Day
Parents on November 2nd, we need your help with making sure your student(s) are prepared for this event. Please have your kid(s) wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt, tall socks, and shoes that cover their feet. It is highly suggested to bring work gloves as well!
Throughout the day each class will be getting out in the Thorson School Forest and giving it some Tender Loving Care. Tasks that students will undertake are pulling weeds, laying a cardboard barrier down, mulching the trails, and trimming back the branches that are in the trail's way. The Thorson Green Squad is helping launch this awesome connection with students and their school forest.
Thank you for your support and assisting in making sure students are prepared to partake in our 1st Annual Forest Maintenance Day at Thorson
Veterans Day Activities & Service Learning Project
We have some very exciting plans in store for Veterans Day! On Thursday, November 11, we are asking that all staff and students wear red, white and blue or patriotic clothing to show our school spirit and support for our Veterans. On Thursday the 11th, we will also be celebrating Veterans Day by having a special car procession past all three of our CSD elementary schools. Please see the attached letter for more information on this event and fill out the form at the bottom of the letter if your child has a Veteran who would like to join us for this special procession. Forms should be returned to the Thorson office by Monday, November 1.
As part of our celebration, we would like to continue our tradition of adding a Service Learning project to the day. As a district, we would like to collect money to send a veteran on an Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. We will be collecting donations for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from Monday, November 1 through Friday, November 5. If you would like to help, no amount is too small, please send your donation in a sealed envelope labeled “Honor Flight” to your student’s homeroom teacher. Please see the attached letter for additional information on our elementary Service Learning project.
Absent/Late Arrival-
If you are going to be late or absent, please call the Thorson attendance line at 262-376-6766 before 9:00 a.m. Please state your student's first and last name, teacher, and the reason for the absence. If you are going to be late and are taking hot lunch, please let us know your child's lunch choice by calling the school office at 262-376-6705.

In Writer's Workshop, we have been working on our Show and Tell Unit. We are presently working on a Show and Tell book about our School's Playground! We know the steps for writing a Show and Tell piece and we are working hard on being a BRAVE writer (that's the hardest part)!

Weekly Newsletter-October 18-22nd
Dear Families,
This week, we have worked on the letters s, p, x, and k. Students were asked to build, sort, and read these words. We have also worked on the star words "in" and "at" Be sure that your child knows these words and the other star words that have been previously introduced. This week we read the story Pumpkin, Jack. It is a fiction story where the main character, Tim, grows a pumpkin and all the steps it takes to grow a pumpkin. During this story, we learned about new vocabulary words of mold and generous. Ask your kindergartner what these words mean. We also learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. Do you know that pumpkins are at one-time green!?
Reminders:
Tomorrow is early dismissal! Be sure your child knows the going-home plans.
Next week is Pumpkin Days! Your child can bring in a pumpkin that is decorated (not carved) and have it displayed in the library.
Thank you!
